9 LIFE LESSONS WE CAN LEARN FROM CHRIS KIRUBI

I haven't been active on twitter for a while now and today as I was checking out my page, I stumbled upon a Chris Kirubi tweet which got me checking out his twitter page. He is one of the few people I follow on twitter and you can learn so much from just his tweets or via his Facebook page.  It got me thinking, why not look him up and write some of the life lessons we can all learn from him.

Dr. Chris Kirubi otherwise known as DJ CK is hands down, one of Kenya's most successful business men that I personally admire and look up to as an inspirational figure. I have got so much respect for him as an individual, visionary and a game-changer.  He is a perfect example of living a life of highest excellence and in my pursuit of living my best life and achieving my highest potential he's a among the people I draw inspiration from.  He is a symbol of excellence and has always proven that limitations are just in our mind and that you have the power to make your future better and achieve your dreams.

Chris Kirubi (73), Kenyan multimillionaire business man with his business empires is ranked as one of the wealthiest people in Africa. Besides that he is also a Dj at his own radio station Capital Fm,on a mid-morning show from 10a.m to 2.00 p.m called "The Fuse".

Well, while there are so many business/entrepreneurship lessons that Chris Kirubi teaches via his mentorship program #AskKirubi, what stand out for me  on my journey to personal development is that he also draws so many personal development lessons on life, that we can learn from him.

Here are some of the life lessons we can all draw from Chris Kirubi, through his speeches, interviews, his mentorship program #AskKirubi and tweets.

1. Love what you do,do what you love and don't just do it for financial gain:

Here's what he says on purchasing Capital Fm,"I didn't just want to acquire the station solely for financial dividends, it was eventually going to give me, I wanted to love the business.  I wanted to understand the business from the very basics, so I approached the managers and told them that I wanted to host a rock radio show.  I asked them to teach me how to become a Disk Jockey"

2. Money in itself won't make you happy:

While there are so many things that money can buy you, it's not the key to happiness.

Here's what he tells Forbes; "People say I am one of the richest people in Kenya, but that's not my concern.  I mean they say I'm a god of sorts but I don't agree. When I look around at my companies and see the number of people we've employed, it gives me joy, it's more satisfying than having all the money in the world."

3. Learn to give and share and remember to always give back to the community:

Through his various enterprises he's created huge employment for youth in Kenya where unemployment rate is very high.  Besides that he mentors youth through his social media accounts and Capital Fm website on #AskKirubi
He says this is what fulfills him most.

4. Find your purpose in life and live in alignment with it:

"Recognizing and making a decision on where you want to go, what you want to do and why you want to do it. What's your purpose in life? What's your vision?  You must live for something, so let your purpose and your vision be your motivation for achieving success."

"One of the ways I believe you can find meaning in your life is by creating a strategy you can use through your journey. You need to keep your purpose front and center as you decide how to spend your time, talents and energy.  Remember without a purpose life can be hollow."

5. You are the average of the five people you spend time with:

"You need to surround yourself with the most skilled, intelligent and knowledgeable people.  They edify you, challenge your decisions, brainstorm with you, hold intellectual discussions and are great to learn from.  Associate yourself with greatness if you want to achieve success."

6. Love to read and learn, keep growing and strive to becoming better:

"I don't mean that you pursue education all your life but study books and material that will help you become a better person.  Being and staying informed will help you craft new ways and ideas of doing things.  Innovation is  key to success of any business and I must say it is the key to success of all my businesses."

7. Adapt a positive attitude:

"Nothing can stop a man with the right  mental attitude from achieving his goal, while nothing on earth can help a man with the wrong attitude.  The right attitude will get you to work hard, achieve your goals and will encourage you when times get hard. Nothing good comes from negative energy.  Remember what you believe you shall receive."

8. Never give up in life:

"I have managed to create a balance in my life but that didn't come easy.  I endured the tough times.  The struggles you are in today develop the strengths you need for tomorrow, strengths to endure tougher times and  to create your success story."

9. Dream Big - Very big:

Chris Kirubi is a perfect example of why we should never limit  our dreams.  From starting of as an administrator at Kenatco a transport company owned by the Kenyan government, he build his way up to success by being innovative and creative to becoming one of the wealthiest men in Africa.
From his many interviews he's said that one of his dreams was being recognized by Forbes Magazine, which he was.

In conclusion I believe we have the key to to our future.  Choose your own destiny, live the life you love and create your success story as Chris Kirubi would say.
