5WAYS TO MAKE YOUR NEW YEAR GOALS/RESOLUTIONS SUCCESSFUL

"The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score"~Bill Copeland

Every new year, people always set goals/resolutions, but lets face it how many of these work? Most often they only last for the first few weeks or for the more determined ones the first few months.

However, I tend to believe that you can make yours work and the reasons why most resolutions don't work is because they don't emerge from our true breakthroughs.  What you need is something that comes from inside of you and then identify the real reason why you want to do it.

So how do we make our goals/resolutions work:

  1. Be true to yourself on the kind of goals you set: don't make resolutions for the sake or just because you feel you need to. Instead, make confident choices based on what really matters to you. Actually I believe setting goals/resolutions is not a new year thing but something you should always strive to do as part of your continued growth and transformation journey.
  2. Your goals have to inspire you first: You must feel inspired by your goal.  There's no point beating yourself to do things that don't make you feel energized or psych you up.
  3.  Keep your end objective in mind: Focus more on your end objective, the 'why' versus the 'how'. 'Why' are you doing this and where are you going with your goal? Then after, get to; 'how' do I get there?
  4. Begin with baby steps: Focusing on small steps first will pave way for bigger changes.  This will also help you not give up on your end goal and hence number 5;
  5. Focus on progress: Appreciate the little change or achievement you've made along the way Get started with small actions first, commit to them, appreciate the results you get then perhaps the path will reveal itself.

Remember: "The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach"~ Benjamin Mays
